Toni Collette offers up cult leader vibes ahead of her new Netflix series, Wayward.
The eight part series delves deep into the lives of "troubled teens" whose parents are at their wits end, and left facing one option, to send them to Wayward, a place which on first viewing appears to be a military style camp for children, soon becomes something much more sinister.
Collette's character runs the facility, a youth counsellor named Evelyn, who gives off the vibe of a cult leader, who will stop at nothing to change the lives of these troubled teenagers, particularly two youngsters, Abby and Leilia, whose fondness for pot smoking, has got out of hand.
As the teens try to survive both physical and mental tortures, a new police officer patrolling the area, soon realises that all is not what it seems. Mae Martin, who is played by Alex Dempsey who moves to the Tall Pines of Oregon where the show is set, is also the place where her wife grew up. She has a deep connection with the camp, which is is soon exposed.
Along with Abby and Leilia, Mae battles her own demons, as they work to expose the truth about what really goes on at Wayward.
The torturous series, Wayward will land on our screens on September 25.
