'Top Gun: Maverick Becomes Highest Grossing Film Of 2022 So Far

Having broken Box Office records on the opening weekend of its release, Top Gun: Maverick has reached another milestone, by becoming the highest grossing film for 2022.

The film has now surpassed the $1 billion club, at the global box office, overtaking Marvel film Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. It has become the first Tom Cruise film to reach the one billion dollar club in the process. 

The film had previously taken $248 million on the first weekend of its release.

It follows Cruise's character, Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell who is training a new group of young pilots, three decades after its original film.

The film also features Miles Teller who stars as Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw, the son of Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw who was Maverick's close friend in the previous film from 1986.
