Jessica Simpson has opened up about her experience as a pop star in the early 2000's.

The singer revealed that she experienced feelings of inadequacy and that she didn't feel "good enough." Simpson brought up these past feelings and experiences whilst on stage at her concert at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn on December 7th.

“My whole music career, I had a job, and that was to be a pop star, and I tried, you see. When you’re younger, you never feel good enough, and it’s okay to not feel good enough,” Simpson said.

Simpson returned to the music scene this year after a 15 year hiatus with her brand new albums, 'Nashville Canyon Part I and II'. The singer stated that she wrote about Nashville as it is the city that 'transformed' her.

"I do love Nashville. It brought me home, to myself. It brought me inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life. I just kind of had to surrender myself to my intuition, to the light that was in front of me. I just focused on that,” Simpson said.

Earlier this year saw Simpson return to the stage for the first time in 15 years, she performed at the Recording Academy’s Austin Chapter Block Party at SXSW in Austin, Texas. At this performance she told the crowd, “This time, I needed to remember who I was and why I wanted to sing in the first place and all the music that inspires me, and I needed to forget who they told me to be.”

Simpson explained that she was "mad at music" since being dropped from her label after the release of her country album in 2008.
