When was the last time you did a really thorough clear-out of your home? It’s something we all have on our “To Do” list but there just never seems to be time. Well professional organiser Sarah Reynolds from www.organisedchaos.ie can get you started with just 5 items you could easily ditch right now for a calmer, more clutter-free home. She’s been chatting to Trina Mara on “Something for the Weekend”
Do you really need to keep all your CDs? There are of course CDs you will want to keep but what about the ones that you never really loved or the ones that are scratched or missing their cases? All this music is available digitally now – imagine how much clutter you could clear by letting the CDs go!
2. Endless mismatched lunchboxes
Most of us are guilty of having a kitchen press that’s heaving with mismatched lunchboxes and containers. You’re never going to use all of these and they are wasting valuable kitchen storage space. You need to take them all out and onto the kitchen table. Ditch any tubberware that is missing a lid or isn’t needed on a daily basis. Get rid of anything that’s missing a part and if you have 2 kids, do you really need 30 lunchboxes? Also don’t be tempted to keep the container every time you order a Chinese takeaway
3. Pens & any stationery that doesn’t work
Have a look around – do you have a drawer full of pens that have run out of ink or staplers that don’t work? Ask yourself why exactly are you hanging onto them? This is a real no-brainer. There are too many things we have at home that can be difficult to part with – is a broken biro really one of these items? Ditch ditch ditch!
4. Multiple kitchen utensils
How many wooden spoons or spatulas do you really need? Line them all up on the table to see exactly what you have – give the multiples away or ditch the ones that are broken
5. Chipped or mismatched glassware
Chances are you have a kitchen cupboard full of glasses but how many of them still look well? Are they chipped or discoloured? Do you struggle to find a decent glass when a visitor comes over and you offer them a drink? Maybe look at your collection, if you can still call it that. Do you need a new set? You could pop to IKEA and get a set very cheaply so you can ditch the glassware that used to be good once upon a time and is now worn. The same goes for any chipped glass bowls. And don’t be afraid to use your “fancy” glassware…..what’s the point in having your best glasses stored away gathering dust and never used by anyone?
