Classic Hits 4FM is proud to have
The Down Syndrome Centre
as our official charity partner
The Down Syndrome Centre opened its doors in 2014 with the mission of helping children with Down syndrome to reach their full potential by providing cutting edge early intervention services including SKIP, an early intervention programme that prepares children for mainstream school, Team 21 Tots, a parent and toddler class that incorporates Lamh sign language and vital services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
Our vision was to create a family focussed centre for parents of the children using the service. The centre is a place for parents to meet, get information and advice, make friends and build support networks and communities.
We provide a wide range of supports for families such as New Parent Evenings, Counselling Service, Siblings Camps, and Grandparent Days. We host monthly seminars for parents which look at important areas such as health, education and financial planning. Our online expert panel also provides personalised advice and help to parents across Ireland.
We believe that every child with Down syndrome has the right to reach their full potential and have the opportunity, with the right supports, to develop skills to live as independent and fulfilling lives as possible.
The Down Syndrome Centre has grown at a rapid pace and is now supporting over 180 children per week, with demand growing on a weekly basis. We currently provide services tailored to support children from birth to 13 years and we are continuously developing services and programmes to grow with the children. The next phase of our development will include Life Skills and Social Skills courses for teenagers. Our long term goal is to provide services from birth to independent living.
Word has spread that we have created something special, our dual focus on both parents and children has created a unique model that is both empowering families and better supporting their children than could be achieved by early intervention services alone.
100% of our funding comes through fundraising.
