A new feature film about cancer campaigner, Vicky Phelan will document her efforts to expose the CervicalCheck healthcare scandal.

The 20th Dublin International Film Festival is set to air a documentary on Vicky Phelan, and her fight to expose the CervicalCheck healthcare scandal. Titled simply, Vicky, the feature film will also bring viewers through the cancer campaigner’s efforts to find life extending treatments.

Created by Irish director and producer, Sasha King, the zealous documentary is set to be screened as part of the festival. According to reports, film notes say, “Vicky is an exclusive and intimate journey into not only her fight to expose the truth of what happened for all women but also her own personal fight to stay alive.”

Limerick City Mayor, Cllr Daniel Butler described the mother-of-two as an “inspiration”, as she is “a tireless fighter for women who have been affected by the Cervical Check scandal, and her work encapsulates the Freedom of Limerick, and how women should be treated.”

Vicky, which has a running time of 90 minutes, is one in dozens of Irish and international films that will screen at VMDIFF, from February 23rd to March 6th.

Other new Irish movies to feature at the festival include the Belfast-set crime thriller; Nightride, starring Moe Dunford, the drama Wolf which stars George MacKay and Lily-Rose Depp and was filmed in Ireland last year, and Dublin-set comedy-horror Let the Wrong One In, featuring top Buffy star; Anthony Head. As well as the in-person festival, several of the movies in the programme will be available to rent and view virtually throughout Ireland. www.diff.ie.
