Mamma Mia director Ol Parker has suggested that a third installment of the ABBA-inspired musical films could be in the offing.

Speaking recently, Parker revealed that it had long since been the ambition of producer Judy Craymer for a trilogy to be made, before adding "That's all I can say".

"There is recently the thought of another movie and I know people would love one and some people I’m sure wouldn’t’ love one!", Craymer said of a possible trilogy during the Covid-19 lockdown.

“But I love working with the material and we’ll see. I can’t believe three years ago we were all carousing on an island in Croatia pretending to be in Greece and 500 crew and all having a great time, it definitely wouldn’t’ happen now but it’s something that I’m definitely thinking about and furthering the Mamma Mia shows and I have a couple of movies, nothing to do with Mamma Mia, in development".

Ol Parker said on the potential for a Mamma Mia 3 is strong."The first one made an enormous amount of money, and I think we made a fair amount too. "I know that there is a hunger for a third, and I know that she has a plan. Wouldn't it be lovely?”.

Arring in 2008, the first Mamma Mia film starred Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski, Mirande Seyfried and others, and was a huge success at the Box Office, making $611 million worldwide.

The second installment was just as much of a smash hit, reaching €402 million in the box office.

In 2020, Judy Craymer was also added to the Queen's Birthday honours, earning a CBE.
