Michael Flatley's debut film Blackbird premiered in Dublin yesterday, and the Lord of the Dance star feels that his late mother "would have loved it".

Dedicating the premiere to his late mother, Michael Flatley said, "I think my mother would have loved it and that's most important to me. This is for my mom tonight".

The film itself sees Flatley star as an ex-MI6 operative named Victor Blackley, who is pulled back into an environment that he left, when an agent from his past turns up at his place of business in Barbados.

While it is fairly different to his previous work, Michael Flately is hopeful that the audience enjoyed it all the same.

"It was an interesting story, more of love story really than anything else. As you will see the guy has a lot of pain and has to fight a lot of demons to get through. It's an interesting story, but it is not James Bond", Flately said.

Blackbird was screened at last year's Monaco Streaming Film Festival, where Flatley also picked up an award for Best Actor.
