Actress Amanda Seyfried has spoken about her obsessive compulsive disorder diagnosis.
The Mean Girls star revealed that she was diagnosed with OCD when she was 19 years old, while working on TV drama, Big Love in 2006.
Speaking about her diagnosis to US Vogue, Seyfried said: "I was living in Marina del Rey at the time, shooting Big Love. My mom had to take a sabbatical from work in Pennsylvania to live with me for a month".
"I got my brain scans, and that's when I got on medication – which to this day, I’m on every night".
Seyfried went on to speak about this diagnosis affected her social life as teenager, saying that any risks which may have unsettled her mental health, included "drinking too much alcohol, or doing any drugs at all, or staying out too late".
She continued: "I would make plans and then just not go. I guess I did make choices".
"I didn’t enter that realm of nightclubs. I gotta give credit to my OCD".
Elsewhere, Seyfried spoke about recording songs for a new musical biopic, The Testament Of Ann Lee, based on the 18th century found of the Shaker religion. The award winning Mona Festwold directed biopic looks at Ann Lee as she forges the radical religions that will eventually become the Shakers.
Describing recording tracks for the biopic as a "thrill", Amanda Seyfried said: "I couldn’t hear it. I couldn’t see it. But at that point I was just like, something needs to change within".
"It’s just a new perspective on what this woman is, and why she sings. She doesn’t sing the way I sing; she’s singing to get closer to God.
"I had to wrap my head around singing from a place within me that doesn’t care about how it sounds".
Amanda Seyfried's role in this biopic also earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
This interview also saw Amanda Seyfried speak about how difficult it is to spend time away from her children at work. The actress shares two young children with her husband and actor Thomas Sadoski. The couple tied the knot in 2017.
Speaking about her her children, Seyfried, 40 said: "He’s in kindergarten, she’s in third grade, and their classrooms just happened to be next to each other this year".
"My world’s moving so fast, and there’s so many things I have to do each day and there’s no way I can express what I’m doing", she added. "I just make very clear every day: I really would rather be home with you".
Having rose to fame as Karen Smith in romcom, Mean Girls alongside Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried has also starred in Mamma Mia!, Jennifer's Body and Dear John.
In 2022, Amanda Seyfried starred in drama, The Dropout, a role which saw her win a Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe Award, where she starred as biotech boss, Elizabeth Holmes.
Last year, she starred in box office, The Housemaid, which will return for a sequel, according to film company, Lionsgate, who have said that production will begin later this year.
