The hit musical comedy series Glee is set to return, with an all-new season in development for Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney announced the news on Wednesday, confirming that the reboot will come from creator Ryan Murphy, although details about the cast and an official release date have yet to be revealed.
The new series will be produced by 20th Television, the studio behind the original show.
Glee originally aired on Fox for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, following a group of high school students who found a sense of belonging through their school's glee club.
The series became a global hit and featured a star-studded cast, including Lea Michele, the late Cory Monteith, the late Naya Rivera, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch.
Murphy revealed last month that a script for a potential reboot had been written. He also confirmed that he had been speaking with former cast members about the possibility of returning to the series.
Speaking to ABC News, Murphy said he had been quietly discussing the idea with people involved in the original show, asking whether they thought a revival was something they should pursue.
He admitted he was still weighing up the decision, describing the process of exploring a return as enjoyable.
During its original run, Glee received widespread recognition and won six Primetime Emmy Awards, alongside several Golden Globe Awards.
The series also earned the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in both 2010 and 2011, reflecting its impact on television representation.
All 121 episodes of the original series are currently available to stream on Hulu.
While the announcement has confirmed the show's return, fans will have to wait for further updates on casting, production and when the new season will arrive on streaming platforms.
