Sia has been granted primary physical custody of her young son, following a custody battle with her estranged husband, Dan Bernad.
According to court documents obtained by People magazine, the Chandelier singer was awarded custody by Judge Firdaus Dordi, based on an agreement made between the former couple, which will see Mr Bernad share legal custody, which includes regular visitation rights, as well as special days and holidays, as per the agreement.
Sia and Bernad were married from 2022 to 2025, and had agreed on child support payments several months earlier, with Sia agreeing to pay Bernad $42,500 (£31,767) per month for the care of young son, Somersault Wonder.
These payments began on April 1, and will continue until the child turns 18 or if he is still attending school full time, until he graduates or turns 19. They could also cease under certain conditions, including death, marriage, emancipation or further court order.
Sia is also responsible for covering any school tuition costs, any agreed upon extracurricular activities and uninsured healthcare costs. The filings also said that the singer maintains health insurance for their son.
It has been revealed that Bernad has waived any rights to money which Sia received for songs she wrote prior to their marriage, including Cheap Thrills and Chandelier, which saw Sia receive $165 million (£123 million). Bernad reportedly waived any rights for a one off settlement of $1 million (£750,000) settlement.
Prior to this, Bernad had submitted a request to seek sole legal and physical custody of Somersault Wonder in October last year, having claimed that Sia was “an unfit and unreliable parent struggling with substance abuse and addiction,” according to People.
Sia responded by stating that she had been sober for more than six months, and was taking part in a recovery program, which included testing and a sober companion.
This request was ultimately denied by the courts, citing “sufficient exigency for the requested emergency relief has not been shown at this time,” according to the court documents.
In March 2025, Sia had filed for divorce, a year after welcoming her son with Bernad. (All quotes according to People magazine).
