The Neighbours star welcomed her son in 2019 after using a sperm donor. She recently spoke out advising women to do as much research as they can if they are considering IVF.
The star revealed that there was a lot she didn't understand about the process and that there was a lot of "trauma involved."
Speaking to Elizabeth Day on the How To Fail podcast, Imbruglia said: "It's pretty brutal. What I will say is that it's really important to educate yourself and to ask a lot of questions and for women to share."
"There's a lot that I didn't know or understand about that process and there's a lot of trauma involved along the process of learning things that someone could have told me," she continued.
The star said that she found the IVF journey "pretty lonely" and that when the procedure doesn't work you have a whole period of time where you have to "pull yourself together."
Imbruglia explained that she thought IVF was the best option for her at her age. She hit back at reports suggesting that she found a sperm donor because she didn't want to find a partner.
The star illustrated the impact these rumours had as she said: "It really upset me... because that was not the case. We just find ourselves in a situation where there's a biological clock and you know a decision needs to be made."
The actress considers the birth of her son as "dream come true" and something she has "wanted to do since I was a little girl."
