Portman is already mum to Aleph, 15, and Amalia, 9, whom she shares with her former husband, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied.
She explained that welcoming a newborn has also given her a fresh perspective on raising her older children, making her reflect on just how quickly they have grown up.
“I am reminded of how recently they were these little fresh creations and how quickly they've blossomed into incredible humans with their own amazing personalities and senses of humor and ideas,” she said.

Portman and Millepied met while working on the 2010 film Black Swan, for which Portman won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
The pair married in 2012, before separating in 2023. Their divorce was finalised in 2024.
In the interview, Portman also reflected on how different this pregnancy felt compared with her first two, explaining that she had a greater sense of calm and gratitude this time around.
She previously said she believed it would probably be her last pregnancy, making the experience particularly special.
The actress has generally kept her family life private, choosing to focus public attention on her work rather than the details of her relationships.
