Melanie Chisholm, better known as Mel C or Sporty Spice, has married Australian model Chris Dingwall in an intimate ceremony in the Lake District.

The 52-year-old singer exchanged vows at Country House Cumbria, wearing a simple floor-length white gown, designed by none other than bandmate and fashion mogul Victoria Beckham.

Three of her Spice Girls bandmates – Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Geri Halliwell-Horner – were there to celebrate the couple's big day. Victoria Beckham was unable to attend as she is in the United States for the FIFA World Cup.

Guests described the ceremony as "perfect".

Mel C's daughter, Scarlett, whom she shares with former partner Thomas Starr, was among the bridal party and served as a bridesmaid.

There was one unexpected interruption during the ceremony when a herd of cows from a nearby farm wandered towards the Georgian country house as the couple were exchanging vows, briefly alarming guests before the wedding continued.

According to reports, the couple had planned a small and private celebration with close family and friends.

The wedding comes just weeks after Mel C reflected on her friendship with her former Spice Girls bandmates as the group celebrates the 30th anniversary of their debut single, Wannabe.

Speaking recently, she revealed that while her favourite Spice Girl changes depending on the day, she is closest to Emma Bunton, who attended the wedding.

"I'd like to choose a different one on a different day. I'm probably closest to Emma [out of] all the girls. I love my Baby Spice," she said.

She also joked about recently catching up with both Emma and Victoria.

"I saw her yesterday … Emma yesterday, Victoria today because she's dressed me," she said.

Released in July 1996, Wannabe became a global phenomenon, reaching number one in 37 countries and launching the Spice Girls to worldwide fame.

The group went on to become one of the biggest pop acts of the 1990s with hits including Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Who Do You Think You Are and Spice Up Your Life.
