Footage of masked thugs throwing metal bars in Cork riot has been circulating online.
The major altercation occurred near the Ballyvolane Road on Sunday afternoon, Gardaí have confirmed that a firearm was discharged in the same area yesterday.
Two men are currently receiving treatment in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The video appears to show a stand-off between two groups of men, with some wearing masks and carrying metal bars. The groups can be seen hurling several missiles at each other, while shouting is heard in the background.
The footage also includes a Garda with several officers waiting outside the area for assistance. A significant Garda presence was later at the site, with members of the Armed Support Unit.
Another incident occurred in the same area on Saturday in the same area. According to CorkBeo, investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
Former Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. John Sheehan, told Cork Beo that the recent violent events have caused residents to be scared in their own homes.
"Violence in any shape or form is completely unacceptable. Local residents in the area are very concerned - this is causing anxiety and worry in the community, and putting innocent people at risk," he told the news outlet.
"I know Gardaí have been working hard and have had a visible presence in the area over the weekend. Hopefully it can be brought to a resolution quickly," Sheehan continued.
A Garda spokesperson told Cork Beo that "Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a discharge of a firearm at a location on Ballyvolane Road, Cork city on Sunday afternoon, 23rd August 2026. Two males are receiving hospital treatment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening."
"Separately, Gardaí responded to reports of a public order incident involving a group of individuals near Ballyvolane Road, Cork city, on Saturday, 22nd August 2026, at approximately 3:30pm. Upon their arrival, those involved dispersed from the scene. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing," the spokesperson continued.
