Thousands of breast cancer survivors, thrivers, families and friends will turn Leopardstown Racecourse pink this Saturday, 29 August, for Breast Cancer Ireland’s annual Very Pink Run.
More than 6,000 people are expected to take part in the charity’s flagship fundraising event, with both the 10K and 5K races starting at 12 noon in waves.
Among those attending and supporting participants at the start line will be Breast Cancer Ireland Very Pink Run ambassadors including Elaine Crowley, Hazel Chu, Jennifer Wrynne, Jake Carter, Karen Byrne, James Patrice, Chris Connolly and Terrie McEvoy, alongside Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland.
The event promises plenty of colour and entertainment, with participants expected to embrace the pink theme with feather boas, wigs, tutus, sunglasses, umbrellas, headpieces, legwarmers and fairy wings. Pink-clad dogs will also be joining the celebrations.
Musical entertainment groups will perform along the race routes, helping participants keep their energy up and creating a festival atmosphere. Children's entertainment and a special Memory Wall will add to the occasion.
The Very Pink Run is Breast Cancer Ireland’s single largest fundraising event of the year. Funds raised support nationwide education and awareness programmes, as well as vital research into new treatments and therapies for breast cancer, including metastatic breast cancer.
Since the event began, more than 110,000 people have taken part, raising over €8 million for the charity and helping support research that aims to improve outcomes for people living with the disease.
This Saturday’s event is set to be a powerful celebration of community, remembrance and hope, with thousands coming together to show their support for those affected by breast cancer and help fund research into its future treatment.
