A young boy was rushed to hospital after holding a bloody heroin needle that he found near a play area in Co Cork.
As reported by CorkBeo, the five year old boy was out playing with friends near a children's play area near the Lough when he found a syringe which contained a mixture of blood and heroin.
The young boy carried the needle home when a neighbour saw him and shouted for him to drop it, before his mam, Jade rushed him to Cork University Hospital.
Speaking to Paul Byrne on the 96FM Opinion Line, Jade explained: "He came home, and actually the neighbour saw him with a needle in his hand that had blood and liquid in it, and he was squeezing it. Obviously my neighbour shouted, 'Ben, drop that now!' Got the fright of my life and brought him, put him into the car straight up to CUH."
"I was stripping him, checking was there any pricks in his legs, his feet, because he said he was trying to kick it away too. But they actually looked, you know, when he went to CUH, they checked his body and everything; they think that he didn't prick himself. But still, like, I'm so angry," she continued.
Since the incident, Jade has warned that "something serious will happen" due to the lack of Garda presence. She stated that an increased Garda presence in the city centre has led to drug activity shifting into residential areas such as the Lough and Turner's Cross.
Speaking on the 96FM Opinion Line, Jade said that there needs to be guards patrolling the areas such as the Lough and Turners Cross.
Jade told the radio host that her son is safe after the incident and that she has emphasised again him to not touch anything like that and to not pick up anything from the ground.
