The Faithfuls were left astonished in The Traitors Ireland as they voted out one of their own in last night’s seventh episode of the second season.
David Moran, a 45-year-old stay-at-home dad from Dublin, had previously revealed that growing up gay in Ireland helped him become good at keeping secrets, which he hoped would be an advantage in playing as a Faithful.
While he pushed hard to root out yet another Traitor, David faced increased scrutiny from his fellow Faithfuls on Sunday night over his earlier behaviour.
Pete, a Defence Forces member from Cork, said that he got a few ‘signs’ that David was a Traitor, following an emotional morning for himself after Sam’s murder.
During the Round Table, Pete also brought up Janet’s behaviour at breakfast, when she laughed with other contestants as he fought back tears.
Janet was quick to defend herself, though David did not prove to be as convincing and was nearly unanimously banished by the other players.
On leaving the Castle, David revealed: ‘This is the best thing that I have ever done, apart from my husband and my kids whom I’m dying to see. I’ve had enough of this big dysfunctional family, I want to get back to my real one.’
He added to those remaining: ‘Keep your eyes open because you haven’t caught a Traitor I’m afraid. I’m a Faithful.’
As the contestants were hit with the realisation that they had banished one of their own, Siobhán McSweeney told them they had ‘lost a very good Faithful. I wonder who will bear the brunt’.
Tears began to flow at the Round Table, with Janet, Kayleigh and Diego particularly emotional after having to say goodbye to David.
A murder is now on the cards tonight, with Carla and her new recruit, Pauric O, keen to deflect as much attention as possible.
Fans have pointed out that Carla may have gotten away with one the night before, when, while departing, Traitor Aoife dropped her name before being banished.
One X user wrote: ‘How are NONE of them discussing the RANDOMNESS of Aoife picking Carla last night?? They truly are a terrible bunch of Faithfuls, who believe they’re way better than they are, cos the Traitors have been so poor!!’
Another shared: ‘Aoife literally wrote Carla’s name down, said it’s a “stab in the back”, apparently tapped on the board and gave Ian a look, and in her goodbye speech basically told them she was recruited the night before. Not one person at the round table brings up Carla’s name…’
A third added: ‘They may just give Carla the money now lads.’
