Gardaí have confirmed that a woman injured in a serious road traffic collision in Donegal earlier this week has died in hospital.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was the driver of a car involved in a crash with a van on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, near Carndonagh, on Wednesday evening, 2nd July.

She had been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast in critical condition but has since passed away.

A six-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the same car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other occupants of the car — a young girl who was in the rear seat and a man in his 30s in the front passenger seat — are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at hospitals in Belfast and Derry.

No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed for a time to allow for a forensic examination by Garda Collision Investigators and has since reopened.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses, particularly any road users with dash-cam footage who were travelling on the R240 between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday evening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
