Gardaí at Salthill have issued an appeal for information regarding an incident in which a house was almost set on fire.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 9th. At approximately 9.50 pm a window was smashed at a house in Cnoc An Oir, Rahoon. Flammable liquid was splashed on the front door of the house, which was subsequently set alight.

Witnesses described seeing two males fleeing from the scene in the aftermath of the incident.

One has been described as wearing all dark clothing with a hood pulled up over his face. The second male was wearing grey tracksuit pants and a dark hoodie, again with the hood pulled over his face. One of the men is believed to have been carrying a Dunnes Stores carrier bag.

After fleeing on foot from Cnoc An Oir, the two males got into a black Volkswagen Golf that was parked on the Letteragh Road at the entrance to Sliabh Rioga. The car then drove off at high speed in the direction of Tonabrooky.

Salthill Gardaí are asking for anyone with information to call the station at 091-514720 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
