Love/Hate star John Connors is to feature in the new docudrama on the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, directed by Jim Sheridan.

It has been reported that Connors has already shot several scenes for Re-creation, which will focus on the final moments leading up to the French film producer's death in co Cork in December 1996.

Connors is perhaps best known for his role as Patrick Ward in Love/Hate, and for Cardboard Gangsters, which saw him land the Best Actor award at the Irish Film and Television Awards in 2018.

John Connors has been added to a line up, which also includes Vicky Krieps who will star as Sophie Toscan du Plantier in this film. Krieps was also spotted in Dublin shooting another project, which will also star Cate Blanchett.

However, who will be playing Ian Bailey remains to be seen, with Oscar winning director Jim Sheridan remaining coy on who he would be tapping up for the role.

“We don’t have anyone yet", Sheridan replied when asked who would be playing Bailey. He also added this, when probed about who he would like to take up the role. “I’m not going to answer that because then they won’t do it", Sheridan remarked.

Jim Sheridan who had also previously claimed that he felt Ian Bailey was innocent of the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, had also insisted that he did not want to get into that debate.

This docudrama will see Sheridan use fiction to try to get to the bottom of this case. He will act as a protagonist in front of the camera, with a dramatic recreation of Sophie on screen.

“Call it obsession. Call it anger. Call it justice. Call it what you want. I am still on a quest for Sophie,” Sheridan previously said of his motivation for the film", Sheridan said.

Speaking about the project, Sheridan has revealed that he and co-writer David Merriman are working on editing the film's script, with a cinema release date to be announced soon.
