A murder investigation has been launched by Gardaí following the fatal shooting of a woman in Finglas on Saturday night.

At approximately 8.40pm a 36-year-old woman was shot at a residence in Collins Place, Finglas. The woman is believed to have been at the rear of the house when she was shot.

The woman was treated at the scene by emergency services before being brought to the Mater hospital, where she died from her injury.

Following the removal of the woman's remains to the city morgue, a post mortem is being carried out on Sunday afternoon by State Pathologist Dr Sally Ann Collis.

The Garda Technical Bureau is conducting a technical examination at the crime scene, which remains sealed off.

Gardaí are believed to be investigating whether last night's shooting had any connection to an earlier shooting in the area last week. No arrests have yet been made.

House-to-house inquiries are being carried out in the area by gardaí today.
