Elton John Urges People To Get Behind Global Vaccination Campaign

Over the weekend, Elton John performed at the Global Citizen Live and had a very strong message for the audience.

These charity gigs are designed to "unite the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty". They took place across several cities worldwide during a 24 hour broadcast and livestream. 

At the base of Paris' Eiffel Tower, Elton John performed hit "Tiny Dancer", before sharing a heartfelt message on the Covid-19 pandemic and how it is affecting the poorer areas of the world.

He also performed hits "Your Song" and "Rocket Man". The music legend also sang his recent collaboration with Charlie Puth "After All". This was also John's last live performance ahead of his upcoming hip operation which has led him to postponing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. 

"We must not leave anybody behind"

“I have spent most of my life fighting the AIDS pandemic, and we made great progress for two reasons: one, we’ve always followed the science, two, we’ve put our arms around everyone to make sure no one gets left behind", he told the audience. 

“These same lessons apply equally to the COVID pandemic. While most here today have been vaccinated against COVID, only four percent in Africa are. We must not leave anyone behind". 

Elton John also urged people to donate to the Go Give One vaccine equity campaign by the WHO Foundation. They said that donations of up to $1 million would be matched.

“Showing this love and solidarity for others during COVID, like we’ve done with AIDS, is how we’ll make a better future", John said.
