Six national finalists have been chosen for this years' A New Local Hero event, in association with Hot Press and the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland.

A New Local Hero which features some of Ireland's brightest, young talent, will take palce a The Academy in Dublin on April 25th, and tickets are on sale now.

The winner of this competition will receive a €100,000 prize, along with the opportunity to release a single alongside independent Irish record label Rubyworks, at the iconic Camden Recording Studios in Dublin.

The 6 finalists chosen for this final were selected from a talent search of 25 radio stations, with the remaining 19 also having the opportunity to compete for the Wildcard Ward alongside the six finalists. This award will see the lucky winner awarded a €2,500 bursary.

“It has been really exciting, hearing the cream of the new artists who are coming through all over Ireland”, Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said.

Stokes also added, “I know that the judges were faced with some now been shortlisted that these are very special acts with the potential to really flourish in the long run. There can be only one artist selected as A New Local Hero 2023, but it is very clear, from the music that we have been hearing, that we are on the right track here in Ireland at the moment, producing artists of real calibre across all genres. Long may it continue”.

Ireland's Classic Hits is one of the radio stations involved in the event, which is central to Irish Music Month, which is being supported by the Coimisiún na Mean, incoporated by MCD Productions, IMRO, RAAP, Rubyworks and Camden Recording Studios, along with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland under the Sound & Vision scheme.
