Status Orange weather warnings have been issued as Storm Jocelyn approaches, bringing "strong southwest to west winds with severe and damaging gusts."

Met Éireann have issued orange warnings for Tuesday from 6pm until midnight for Mayo and Galway. An orange warning is also in place for Donegal from 6pm Tuesday until 2am Wednesday.

Status yellow warnings are in place for all other counties from Tuesday afternoon until early Wednesday morning.

The forecaster has warned of large coastal waves with wave overtopping, very difficult travelling conditions, fallen trees, damage to power lines and damage to already weakend structures.

A status yellow wind warning is currently in place for counties Galway, Mayo, Clare, Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim until 7pm Monday.

Meanwhile, Uisce Éireann is working to address any supply interruptions to customers as a result of the impacts of Storm Isha on water treatment infrastructure. Mayo, Donegal and the South-East have been most impacted to date.

Tom Cuddy, Uisce Éireann’s Head of Operations, said: “Uisce Éireann has implemented its emergency response processes and is working closely with National Emergency Co-ordination Committee, Local Authorities, ESB and other partners to co-ordinate the national response address any impact on water supplies due to Storm Isha.

“For areas where supplies that have been impacted, Uisce Éireann crews are on the ground working to restore production as soon as it is possible.”

Across Ireland, 155,000 homes, farms and businesses are still without power after Storm Isha hit, down from 235,000 at its peak.

The looming Storm Jocelyn is expected to cause further delays to restoration work.

A spokesperson for ESB said in a statement: “We expect to restore power to significant numbers of impacted customers throughout today, Monday.

“However, due to the severity of Storm Isha, full restoration of electricity supplies will take a number of days. While we continue to restore electricity to large numbers of customers, we expect to have significant numbers of customers without power tonight.

“Given the extensive damage to the network, unfortunately some customers will be without power for a number of days.  Orange and Yellow level winds associated with Storm Jocelyn tomorrow (Tuesday) may hamper restoration efforts. “
