Comedian Patrick Kielty begins his reign as host of RTE's Late Late Show tonight.

For the first time in 14 years, the Late Late Show will have a new host tonight.

Comedian, Patrick Kielty takes the hot seat from Ryan Tubridy who stood down earlier this year.

The new run-time for the Late Late Show is now just 90 minutes compared to the old 130-minute run time.

Kielty becomes just the fourth long-term host of the show and can't wait to get going.

The comedian said he will draw on his experience as a stand-up and keep the tone of the show "a little bit loose."

His predecessor, Ryan Tubridy, had reached out with a good-luck message ahead of his debut tonight.

Kielty said that his mother in Co. Down will not be changing her Late Late Show routine:

"My mother has a very religious way that she watches the Late Late Show and that is from the sofa in Main Street, Dundrum.

It doesn't matter if her son is hosting it or not, that's where she'll be."
