Robert Carlyle Hails Tom Wilkinson As 'One Of The Greats'

Tributes have been paid to the late actor Tom Wilkinson, who passed away aged 75.

The Oscar nominated actor, co-starred in British comedy, The Full Monty alongside Robert Carlyle, who called Wilkinson "one of the greats". 

"So sad to hear of Tom's passing", Carlyle said in a statement to the PA news agency. "He’ll be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of working with him". 

"Such a huge performer, a real titan of an actor, one of the greats of not only his, but of any generation". 

Other stars who paid tribute to Wilkinson also include pop singer Will Young, who posted a heartfelt message on his Instagram account, mentioning a time when Wilkinson helped him with acting auditions.

Along with releasing hits such as 'Leave Right Now', and 'Jealousy', Will Young has also turned his hand to acting, having appeared in Marple, Mrs Henderson Presents, and Highland Park. 

"Goodbye friend. Funny, bloody smart, helped me with auditions along with (Diana Hardcastle) and what a terrific actor. British acting royalty I salute you dear Tom xxx", Young wrote. 

 

Scott Derrickson, an American filmmaker known for horror films such as The Black Phone, and Sinister, also paid tribute to Tom Wilkinson, recalling a moment which saw the late actor give him a surprise kiss on the lips, whilst on the set of The Exorcism Of Emily Rose. 

Describing Wilkinson as "an amazing talent and wonderful human being", he paid this tribute. 

"As I went in for a hug, he turned sideways and put one arm around my shoulder", he said. "I said, 'Well that's a British hug if I’ve ever had one…’.

"He frowned at me, then grabbed my face and kissed me right on the lips for a good five seconds, then declared loudly, ‘Don’t ever insult British affection or sense of romance! We invented the stuff!'".
