A man in his 60s has died following a road traffic collision involving a van and a bicycle in County Cork on Monday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 5pm on the N25 near Carrigtwohill. Emergency services and Gardaí responded to the scene, where the cyclist was pronounced dead.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

The driver of the van, also a man in his 60s, received treatment at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.

The road remains closed this morning as Garda forensic investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. They are also asking any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from the area between 4:30pm and 5pm to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Midleton Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Investigations are ongoing.
