Pophouse Entertainment have acquired Tina Turner's name, image and likeness rights, after they agreed a deal with BMG.

The Swedish entertainment company, who were co founded by ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus, announced this purchase deal, which also includes a majority share in the late singer's music catalogue.

This happened following talks between Pophouse and BMG, which began following Turner's death in 2023, with the latter still retaining a percentage of her catalogue. They also confirmed that the singer's estate was not a direct negotiating party, but was “informed and participating in the conversations".

Tina Turner, who was hailed as the Queen of Rock and Roll, passed away aged 83, following a career which saw her produce hits like Simply The Best, What's Love Got To Do With It, and Proud Mary. She also won 12 Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

On this deal, BMG UK, Continental Europe and APAC's president, Allistair Norbury, released this statement.

“Tina Turner’s voice and spirit shaped modern music and popular culture. Our responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the Estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career", he said.

Pophouse Entertainment are known for its digital avatar shows, having partnered with Kiss to create these avatars for the final night of their 2023 End Of The Road farewell tour. The avatars were inspired by George Lucas' special-effects company, Industrial Light and Magic, in collaboration with Pophouse.

This alliance also inspired the ABBA Voyage show in London, which saw digital versions of the band perform on stage.

Speaking of Tina Turner, it was announced that a previously unfounded song from the late singer, Hot For You Baby, was to be released for a special 40th anniversary edition of her breakthrough album, Private Dancer, which was nominated for Album for the Year at the 1985 Grammy Awards.

Other tracks on the album also featured, Better Be Good To Me, and What's Love Got To Do With It, both tracks were also received Grammy nods. Find out more on this story here.
