Two separate fish kill events in Cork and Galway have left hundreds of fish dead.
Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) have several ongoing investigations due to two fish kill events in Cork and Galway. There is also two pollution investigations Kerry and Cork.
The IFI are investigating the fish kill event at Curraghalicky Lake near Dunmanway, Co Cork, and suspect a pollution incident occurred on a tributary of the Dunkellin River in east Galway.
According to reports, IFI Galway staff has been on site since Thursday assessing the event, and have confirmed a line of inquiry into a possible source of pollution. The species of fish that were found include salmon, trout, perch, stone loach, stickleback, and lamprey. Monitoring and assessment of the event will continue to determine the cause of the event.
According to the Irish Examiner, a significant fish kill event is defined as one that can affect a single or multiple species and can have significant habitat damage, impact on spawning and may require the response of more than one agency.
The IFI are also investigating two separate pollution incidents in the Ross River in Killavullen, Co Cork and the Deenagh River in Killarney, Co Kerry.
