A technical examination is due to take place today at a house in Glounthaune, County Cork, following the discovery of the bodies of an elderly man and woman.
The couple, both aged in their 80s, were found near the stairs of the property yesterday evening. The house was sealed off by Gardaí as investigations began.
The bodies have since been removed to Cork University Hospital, where post-mortem examinations will be carried out. The results of the post-mortems will determine the direction of the Garda investigation.
At this stage, it is understood that foul play is not suspected. The local coroner has been notified, and the scene remains preserved pending further examination.
Gardaí say enquiries are ongoing.
