American fast food chain Wendy’s has officially opened in Ireland, three years after they first teased that they were venturing into Europe.

Last year, it was confirmed that the famed burger joint had reached an agreement with service station and energy company Corrib Oil, which is serving as its franchise partner in Ireland.

Ten Wendy’s restaurants are expected to open across Ireland over the next two years.

Additional locations will include a mix of standalone restaurants and smaller installations at existing Corrib service station sites.

The arrival of the American chain is understood to bring 300 new jobs to the Irish economy.

The restaurant was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio, and is the third-largest burger fast-food chain in the world.

They are best known for their ‘made-to-order square hamburgers, freshly prepared salads and other signature items like chilli, baked potatoes and the Frosty dessert.’

The iconic logo of a little girl with red braided hair was inspired by one of Dave’s daughters.

It was confirmed last year that all beef sold in Irish stores would be 100% Irish-sourced and certified, with other ingredients sourced locally when possible.

Corrib Oil operates 38 convenience stores with forecourts across 17 counties, employing more than 1,100 staff, which is expected to increase to nearly 1,500 when Wendy’s is fully operational.

It comes not long after it was revealed that a British kebab chain would be making its way to Ireland.

Over the next 12 months, it is reported that the kebab chain will create up to 150 jobs across Ireland.

The first store will be based at none other than Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, with RTÉ reporting a further five shops will open across the country within the year.

Meanwhile, Taco Bell opened its first Irish store in Ireland last month, partnering with Applegreen.

The first location opened in Junction 6 on the M3 in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath.
