Billy Joel's daughter, Alexa Ray has said that her father is "doing great" following his brain disorder diagnosis last year.
This comes after the Piano Man singer had been forced to cancel all upcoming shows after he was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus last year, which causes a build up of fluid on the brain.
This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance", a statement read on social media."Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period".
"Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritising his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage", the statement added.
"I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding".
Now, speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Joel's daughter, Alexa Ray hailed his father as a "fighter" and is "doing great" following his diagnosis.
“He’s doing physical therapy regularly, and he’s doing great", he said. “He’s lost weight as he’s on his diet. I’m so proud of him. He’s such a trooper, so resilient and committed to being healthy and proactive. He’s a fighter".
Joel's last performance took place in February last year, which saw him collapse on stage.
Referring to the footage, Alexa Ray said: “When I saw the footage, I was crying. But then I went with him to the doctors, and we’re on top of everything. I just tell him to stay healthy".
Last year, Billy Joel also missed the Tribeca premiere of his documentary film following his diagnosis, but assured fans that he "will be back".
“Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey his greetings to you all", she said. “He said ‘getting old sucks, but it’s still preferable to getting cremated".
The singer's wife, Alexis shared another positive update on her husband's health.
"We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received. Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future". More on this story here.
