A man is set to face a special sitting of Cork District Court today after an alleged public disorder rampage.
The man who is reportedly in his 50s was reported to Gardaí on Friday, August 28th for an alleged "aggressive outburst" on Oliver Plunkett Street.
The man was arrested and released without charge before he was arrested again yesterday, Sunday September 5th.
According to CorkBeo, he is facing a special sitting of Cork District Court in connection with the "alleged public order and assault incidents."
Since the incident, there is a widespread concern among businesses and members of the public who have seen anti-social behaviour frequently in Cork city centre.
The Cork Business Association (CBA) said via CorkBeo that it is aware of serious concerns in the city centre and urged anyone who witnesses an incident to report it to the Gardaí. Its upcoming Safety & Clean Committee meeting will focus on visible policing and Garda response times.
"The CBA is aware of concerns around anti-social behaviour in Cork city centre and we take these concerns seriously. It is important that people continue to feel confident coming into and enjoying the city. Cork is a safe, welcoming and vibrant city, and we do not want a small number of incidents to undermine that," The CBA said in a statement to CorkBeo.
"Where incidents do occur, it is important that they are reported promptly to An Garda Síochána so they can be responded to and followed up appropriately. We are engaging directly with the Gardaí on concerns raised by businesses, including response times and visible policing, and these issues will be discussed at an upcoming meeting with our Safety & Clean Committee," their statement continued.
A Garda spokesperson told the news outlet today: "A man in his 50s has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged public order and assault incidents on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork, which occurred on August 28th, 2026. The individual was apprehended on September 5th, 2026 and subsequently charged. He is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court today, Sunday, September 6th, 2026 at 12 noon."
