A motorcyclist aged in his 40s has died following a road traffic collision in County Cork.
The incident happened on the N73 near Mitchelstown at approximately 1.40pm yesterday and involved a motorcycle and a car.
Emergency services and gardaí attended the scene, where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead. His body was later removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place. The coroner has been informed.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was taken to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel as a precaution.
A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since reopened.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who was travelling on the N73 near Mitchelstown between 1pm and 2pm yesterday, to come forward. Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, are also being asked to make it available to investigators.
