A man in his 50s has been arrested and over €700k in cash has been seized in relation to a prostitution organisation in Limerick.
The Garda National Protective Services Bureau conducted the operation targeting organised prostitution in Limerick with support from members of the Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit (OPIU), The Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit (HTICU), local gardaí, and the Southern Region Dog Unit.
The cash was recovered during a raid on a house by the OPIU and the HTICU.
The man was arrested at the scene and is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in the Southern Region.
According to reports, Detective Chief Superintendent Thelma Watters said that gardaí work closely with international law enforcements to protect vulnerable people from sexual exploitation.
“This most recent operation highlights our ongoing commitment to pursuing individuals and groups who facilitate sexual exploitation and to ensuring that they are brought before the courts,” Watters said.
