Britney Spears has been arrested for DUI in California.
The singer was arrested last night at approximately 9.30 pm, on suspicion of DUI, before being taken into custody by California Highway Patrol in Ventura County. The Ventura County Sheriff records have said that the singer was later released this morning.
Spears is due to appear in court on Monday, May 4.
In California, if a person is issued with a DUI, their driver's license is automatically suspended, while jail time and a hefty fine are also possibilities. Such fines can be up to $1,000 and mandatory DUI education programs.
This is not the first time that Britney Spears has been on the wrong side of the law. Last month, the singer was seen driving her Mercedes SUV with her phone pressed to her face, appearing to be talking to someone, which is illegal in California under the 'No Touch' law.
A few months earlier, Spears was also filmed driving into the wrong lane on a highway after a night out, with sources fearing that she was "spiralling" following the release of her ex husband Kevin Federline's memoir.
Back in October, Federline released her memoir, where she claimed his ex wife used cocaine while she was breastfeeding her children, adding that she also started drinking alcohol while she was pregnant and on medication.
Spears' representatives have yet to comment on the latest matter regarding her arrest for DUI.
