Craig David is set to release his new album 25 years after his debut record Born To Do It stormed the charts.
After completing an arena tour and recent performances at festivals like Southampton’s Summer Sessions and Kew The Music, the singer is preparing for the release of Commitment, which will be his ninth album.
Speaking about the new release Craig commented on the similarities between the two albums.
“Creating Commitment was in a lot of respects very similar to Born To Do It. It didn’t feel like I was under this pressure to deliver. It felt really relaxed and cathartic.
“I was listening to the music I grew up listening to, like when I made the first album.
"It got me into a vibe and then I’d go in the studio until 4am.
“I was just loving it, having so much fun.
“You start to get back to why I originally made music. It’s crazy when it’s the ninth album in.
“To have a career spanning 25 years, I’m just really grateful, it’s a crazy journey we’re on.”
After achieving 16 Top 10 hits, two number one albums, and spending just under 300 weeks in the UK charts, the hit maker also revealed his wish to headline Glastonbury.
He already performed at the legendary festival back in 2017 to a field of over 100,000 attendees with many saying he deserved the Sunday Legend slot.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I would love to go back. You know what Glastonbury means to any artist.
“When I performed on the Pyramid Stage, it was one of the most iconic moments for me.
"I could see that there were so many people from so many different walks of life who’d come to see a myriad of different artists.
“I’d never seen so many people and I thought that is what it is normally like.
“People were like, ‘No, Craig, the crowd went over the bank at the back and that is huge.’ It was just amazing.”
David first broke onto the music scene in the summer of 2000 when he was only 19 years old with his single ‘Fill Me In’. The song reached the top of the UK charts and number 11 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S, as well as going platinum in 18 additional countries. A deal with Atlantic saw the star achieve worldwide sales of over three million and Born To Do It became the fastest-selling debut album ever by a British male solo artist.
He has won many awards including MOBO Awards, Billboard Music Video Awards, and MTV Europe Music Video Awards, as well as receiving three Ivor Novello awards. He has collaborated with a variety of artists such as Sting, Tinchy Stryder, Big Narstie, Kano and Jay Sean, and in 2020 he was announced on the Queen’s New Year Honours List to receive an MBE in recognition of his services to music.
