Liam Payne is to posthumously appear as a judge for a new Netflix show, Building The Band.

The show was recorded by Payne, eight months before his tragic death in Argentina last year.

Hosted by Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean, Building The Band looks to form a music group based on the contestants' voices and their chemistry with others. Liam Payne serves as a judge on the show as part of a star studded line up, which features The Pussaycat Dolls' Nicole Sherzinger, and former Destiny Child singer Kelly Rowland.

The format, which is very similar to Netflix dating show, Love Is Blind, will see the singers perform in sound booths. They cannot see the other artist, with the trailer showing them hitting a button when they like what they hear.

The newly formed bands will be then be put through their hearts with live performances in front of Payne and the rest of the judging panel, who will be look at all elements, from chemistry to choreography, work ethic and creativity.

Prior to going ahead with the show's release, the powers that be in Netflix discussed it with Liam Payne's parents, Karen and Geoff, who both reportedly gave it their blessing.

"It's absolutely tragic but it will be so special for Liam's fans to see him doing what he does best - performing", a source told MailOnline.

Building The Band will air on Netflix from July 9.
