The new Michael Jackson biopic has been delayed until 2027, with the show set to be released in two parts.

The biopic titled ‘Michael’ will tell the story of the King of Pop’s life and rise to worldwide stardom. The late singer's nephew Jaafar Jackson will play the main role, alongside a cast including Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Miles Teller as manager John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones. More on this here.

Having been scheduled for release on October 3 in the US, it has now been reported that it will now be released in 2027, with no official date announced at the time of writing.

“In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we’re excited about the 3½ hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy and timing in the next few weeks", Lionsgate CEO Jon Felthimer said.

He added: “I would note that it is likely we will move Michael out of the fiscal year which will impact fiscal ’26 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal 27 slate".

Reports from Deadline have also indicated that this biopic could be released in two parts.

Speaking to investors, Lionsgate film chief Adam Fogelson said the following:

“At the end, when you look at the music library, when you look at what Michael Jackson was able to deliver in terms of music and contributions to art, whether or not that can be fit into one movie comfortably or not is a question that we are absolutely asking. We’ll be ready to answer more specifically in the coming weeks".
