An Irish man has died in an apparent drowning tragedy on a beach in Thailand.
This comes after a search operation was launched after the man was seen disappearing under the water. It was reported in the media, including the Phuket Express, that he had been holidaying in the Phuket area, while out swimming in a lagoon on Tuesday night.
This search saw police called to the scene as well as a forensic team.
The search operation was stood down after a number of hours, and the man's body was found near the water's edge yesterday morning.
The Irishman's body was later removed for a full post mortem, and a full investigation into his death has begun, with officers examining CCTV in the area, as well as gathering evidence, including interviewing witnesses. Authorities have been in contact with the Irish Embassy in Bangkok.
