AA Ireland have reported a huge increase in average motor fuel prices in the last month.
This comes from analysis collated by the company, which found the average litre of diesel cost €1.92 at the start of this month, increasing by 19c from July. It was also reported that the average litre of petrol saw an increase of 9c to €1.84.
These figures mean that a motorist buying 50 litres of fuel is spending approximately €9.50 more for diesel or €4.50 for petrol since early July.
AA Ireland have put this shift down to an increase in wholesale prices, following an increase in the price of oil, which has risen its head again, after hopes of a peace deal between the USA and Iran had been put on hold.
They said that the change in prices at the pumps "reflects global market conditions rather than any change in tax", while also added that motorists should prepare for further increases through the Autumn if wholesale prices stay elevated. (Quotes according to RTÉ).
Drivers have also been advised to do regular maintenance checks on their vehicle, which would help to aid fuel efficiency.
According to Government plans, reductions are to reversed on a phased basis, which is to begin in September, with 9c returned to the price of a litre of petrol. 10c in excise is to also reintroduced to a litre of diesel.
