Cervical screening tests will resume at The Coombe Hospital today.

Screening at the National Cervical Screening Laboratory at The Coombe was halted back in March due to accreditation issues.

While processing at the Coombe was paused, all CervicalCheck samples were tested by Quest Diagnostics Inc. in the US.

It is now expected that the hospital in Dublin will handle around 10% of CervicalCheck programme slides – around 300,000 a year.

Most of the screening will continue to be done by Quest.

The Coombe Hospital Master, Professor Michael O’Connell said:

“Women in Ireland can be assured of the quality they are receiving from the National Cervical Screening Laboratory at The Coombe Hospital.”

Chief Executive of the National Screening Service, Ms Fiona Murphy added:

“We are confident of the quality assured work carried out at the National Cervical Screening Laboratory and delighted that, with the resumption of services, the laboratory can now begin building its volumes back up towards its target of 10% of all CervicalCheck programme slides.”
