Cost Of Living And Housing Set To Dominate Today's Dáil Proceedings

The cost of living and housing are set to dominate today's proceedings at the Dáil, as Government ministers and TDs return to Leinster House following the Summer recess.

With many households facing problems regarding paying their bills likely to be top of the political agenda, the Government may still urge on the side of caution regarding budget expectations.

The Dáil also look set to discuss a proposal from Sinn Féin, seeking to provide mortgage relief of up to €1,500 a year, which they have said could be funded by an increase in the banking levy.

This comes as the Government look to work on a targeted form of interest relief, for those who have suffered most by the ECB rate strikes.

Sinn Féin are also calling on the ban on no-fault evictions to be reinstated.

The Dáil also look to also discuss housing this week, following a motion from the Social Democrats, calling for a target of 10,000 cost-rental, and affordable homes to be provided each year.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney looks set to take questions from the Opposition today, with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, and Tánaiste Michéal Martin attending a United Nations meeting in New York.
