The ceremony was held on Friday, Beckham was joined by his wife Victoria, and friend Tom Cruise for support. Beckham was also joined by his children Romeo, Cruz and Harper. His eldest son Brooklyn was not present at the ceremony.
Beckham described the ceremony as "surreal", and in a heartfelt speech shared that he "could never have imagined an honour like this would come to a working-class English soccer player".
“How fitting then that I am here today as we prepare to celebrate the opening here in the US of the 2026 World Cup. It’s a powerful moment to recognize how the sport I love so much has grown in this country over the past three decades.”
Tom Cruise praised Beckham's work ethic and the milestones he's achieved throughout his career.
Acknowledging that soccer in the USA would not be what it is today if Beckham hadn't spent 6 seasons with LA galaxy from 2007 on.
Cruise said "When David arrived, Major League Soccer had 13 teams. Today, it has 30".
"That’s the impact we’re celebrating today: not just an extraordinary career, but a legacy that changed the trajectory of a sport."
During the ceremony David thanked all who had been a part of his journey so far however "most of all," he thanked his beloved family.
"My parents and my sisters, who always supported my dreams. Victoria, my amazing wife for almost 30 years. Without whom, none of this would be possible or as enjoyable. And my beautiful children, who are the reason that I get out of the bed in the morning,"
