Dogs Trust has launched a Christmas campaign to end puppy breeding cruelty. With Christmas being a popular time of year to get a dog, the charity is encouraging people to adopt or buy responsibly. They want people to be sure they can take care of their new addition before welcoming them into their home.

They're also launching a Christmas petition to stop cruelty in dog breeding. Many dogs suffer in illegal puppy farms, often neglected and terrified of humans. One such example is Nieve, a Springer Spaniel Cross rescued by their team team. They're calling for stricter welfare standards, better enforcement, and a central database to track breeders.  On their site, they have a petition listed, which is to help protect dogs and hold cruel breeders accountable. Similarly, they also want to give caring dog owners the tools to recognize healthy puppies and steer clear of unethical breeders.

Communications Manager at Dogs Trust Ireland, Paulina Pedlo, explains some things to take into account before adopting a dog, "puppies don't come trained. There might be some toilet accidents, there might be some chewing, there might be some damage caused to your expensive Christmas gift. So it's just something that we urge people to kind of keep in mind when you're considering getting a dog".

Pedlo highlights this vital advice, exposing the cruel reality of puppy farms in Ireland, where countless puppies endure needless suffering. This important guidance  sheds light on the grim truth of puppy farms in Ireland—too many puppies are suffering when they shouldn’t have to. She shares this essential advice, revealing the heart-breaking reality of Irish puppy farms, where far too many innocent puppies suffer:

"Right now, too many mums and their tiny pups are kept in cramped, harsh conditions, waiting for a kindness they’ve never known. This Christmas, we’re asking dog lovers across the country to sign our petition to demand an urgent review of the Dog Breeding Establishment Act 2010 and 2018 Guidelines to help end cruel breeding. By reviewing and strengthening existing legislation and its proper enforcement, we can help improve dog welfare and ensure that negligent and abusive breeders who prioritise profit over welfare can be held accountable. Together, we can make sure that every dog has the chance to know kindness".

You can sign the petition, and try to help make a change now.
