Dublin tops the list as Ireland’s undisputed online dating capital, recording more than 16,000 dating-related searches during February across the last three years. That figure equates to 1,124 searches per 100,000 people, the highest rate in the country. With busy work schedules, fast-paced lifestyles and no shortage of social venues, many Dubliners are opting for dating apps as a convenient way to meet potential partners.
Coming in second is Carlow, which logged 1,001 dating-related searches per 100,000 people during February. The study highlights that Valentine’s season is a particularly active time for singles in the county, as “February consistently sees a spike in online dating searches.” Carlow’s lively nightlife and compact town centre make it easy for online conversations to turn into real-life dates.
Waterford ranks third, recording over 1,000 dating-related searches and 793 searches per 100,000 people. As Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford blends historic charm with modern romance, offering coastal walks and city nightlife that appeal to those hoping an online match might lead to something more.
In fourth place, Longford recorded 770 searches per 100,000 people. In a close-knit county where familiar faces are common, online dating offers singles the chance to broaden their horizons during the Valentine’s period and add a sense of novelty to first dates.
Rounding out the top five is Leitrim, Ireland’s least populated county. Despite logging just 270 dating-related searches, this translates to 767 searches per 100,000 people. The data highlights how online dating is reshaping Valentine’s Day for rural singles, allowing connections beyond county borders and sparking long-distance romances, weekend trips and unexpected February plans.
The findings underline how online dating continues to play a growing role in how people across Ireland search for love, particularly during the most romantic month of the year. 💘
