The European Union is on track to ban airlines from charging families extra fees to sit next to children under the age of 12.
The European Parliament’s Transport Committee has approved new passenger rights measures, including a rule ensuring that families with young children can be seated together at no additional cost.
The proposals will now go to the full European Parliament for a vote, and if passed, will proceed to the European Council for final approval.
The committee also backed a measure guaranteeing passengers the right to bring a 7kg carry-on roller bag without extra charges.
If adopted, the new rules are expected to take effect after the summer travel season.
