The Electric Small Public Service Vehicle (eSPSV) Grant Scheme is set to reopen on Monday, 23rd June, offering fresh incentives for taxi, hackney, and limousine drivers to switch to electric vehicles.
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien confirmed the relaunch of the scheme today, following an earlier round of applications in February which drew a record response. Of the original €12.5 million budget, nearly €7.5 million has already been allocated to successful applicants, leaving just under €5 million available for the next phase.
The scheme provides generous financial support to help small public service vehicle (SPSV) operators transition to more sustainable transport options. Grants include:
€10,000 towards a new fully electric SPSV
€12,500 for a new wheelchair-accessible electric SPSV
For operators scrapping older or more polluting vehicles, the grant doubles to:
€20,000 for a new electric SPSV
€25,000 for a new wheelchair-accessible electric SPSV
Minister O’Brien described the strong demand for the scheme as a sign of the sector’s willingness to embrace greener technologies.
“The overwhelming response to eSPSV25 is a clear indication that Ireland's taxi, hackney and limousine industry is ready for change,” he said. “This move not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also positions small public service vehicles as leaders in the nation’s broader environmental initiatives.”
Launched in 2018, the grant scheme has already supported over 3,200 SPSV operators in making the switch to electric vehicles, playing a key role in helping Ireland meet its climate targets.
