Spanish authorities are investigating the deaths of an Irish man and woman whose bodies were discovered at a residential property in Cullera, south of Valencia.
The couple, aged 50 and 45, were found yesterday afternoon at a property in the Cap Blanc residential area.
Their children discovered them in a jacuzzi and raised the alarm, prompting local police and the Civil Guard to attend the scene.
While investigators have not established how the couple died, a specialist homicide unit has been brought in after officers identified circumstances that raised concerns that the deaths may not have been from natural causes.
A spokesperson for the Civil Guard in Valencia confirmed that both victims were Irish and said no possibility had been ruled out at this stage.
Investigators have also taken a sample of water from the jacuzzi for analysis at a specialist laboratory as part of efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The couple's children are now being supported by social workers, with assistance from a psychologist.
Cullera is a coastal town of approximately 25,000 people located south of Valencia. Cap Blanc is a popular residential and beach area close to the town's lighthouse, with a gated community featuring villas and apartments overlooking the Mediterranean.
